269 Days to Election Day 2021 Nov 2 NO MEDIA IN MEDFORD< a New DEAR BREANNA Letter for your Saturday Night

 269 days
February 6, 2021 - November 2, 2021

1)Where is the Local Media?

The Patch
8:19 pm Saturday night the Patch is predicting snowfall for Superbowl Sunday,
Medford Schools and Union reach agreement;
stories from Across America, the library, the gym and a local musician in a new film

Wicked Local
Melrose Hospital, Medford Mustangs, the third article from the Bedford Minuteman?
(shades of the Patch and its stories from Across America) Senior lunch menu,

That is not reporting.

It lets politicians off the hook and keeps the residents in the dark.

At least the high school paper has students discussing hybrid vs remote

While one of the Tufts papers as a very active Twitter with news - the Tufts Daily

with the Tufts Observer being flat and as boring as the Medford Transcript

This does not bode well for Medford.

The Medford News Weekly has the signing in of the new police officers on Facebook
and in the paper:along with bulletins from Medford City Hall and Beacon Hill.

We welcome and congratulate Kevin Braxton and Daniel Brogan as new hires to the Medford Police Department.
Kevin and Daniel were sworn in this morning by clerk Hurtubise! They will start the academy on Monday. Good luck gentlemen.

And Dan Kennedy's blog with Mr. Kennedy asking if Gannett should sell of some under-performing local papers
https://dankennedy.net/2021/02/06/could-gannett-be-looking-to-sell-off-its-smaller-papers/

Dan's asking the question while I've been surmising that Gannett may cluster the Gatehouse publications it bought,
writing on the wall being the dearth of meaty information

The exception being the Medford News Weekly and, full disclosure, I write for the outlet and was the one
who urged publisher Bill Tauro to bring it to town.

Objectively speaking, Mr. Tauro picking up the new police hires is the top story of the week, in my opinion,
followed by the Patch story on the school and the union  https://patch.com/massachusetts/medford/both-sides-praised-medford-schools-union-approve-agreement

Mr. Kennedy's blog did reference the lack of media in Medford some months ago, and didn't include Medford News Weekly,
even though it comes out in paper form as well as online.

This article's focus is more about the impact of no media on the upcoming election, 269 days away, and how it benefits the cronyism and stagnation in Medford in a way that is harmful to the 60,000 or so citizens as well as the city's visitors,
civic groups and businesses.
