Subject: 269 Days to Election: Medford's Damaged Media and Lungo-Koehn's Failure To Address the Issue
269 days
February 6, 2021 - November 2, 2021

1)Where is the Local Media?
The Patch
8:19 pm Saturday night the Patch is predicting snowfall for Superbowl Sunday, Medford Schools and Union reach agreement;
stories from Across America, the library, the gym and a local musician in a new film
Wicked Local
Melrose Hospital, Medford Mustangs, the third article from the Bedford Minuteman? (shades of the Patch and its stories from Across America) Senior lunch menu,
That is not reporting. It lets politicians off the hook and keeps the residents in the dark.

At least the high school paper has students discussing hybrid vs remote
https://www.mhsmustangnews.com/2021/01/28/the-choice-for-mhs-2021-full-remote-vs-hybrid-part-1/
While one of the Tufts papers as a very active Twitter with news - the Tufts Daily

with the Tufts Observer being flat and as boring as the Medford Transcript

This does not bode well for Medford.
The Medford News Weekly has the signing in of the new police officers on Facebook
and in the paper:along with bulletins from Medford City Hall and Beacon Hill.
We welcome and congratulate Kevin Braxton and Daniel Brogan as new hires to the Medford Police Department.
Kevin and Daniel were sworn in this morning by clerk Hurtubise! They will start the academy on Monday. Good luck gentlemen.

And Dan Kennedy's blog with Mr. Kennedy asking if Gannett should sell of some under-performing local papers
https://dankennedy.net/2021/02/06/could-gannett-be-looking-to-sell-off-its-smaller-papers/
Dan's asking the question while I've been surmising that Gannett may cluster the Gatehouse publications it bought,
writing on the wall being the dearth of meaty information
The exception being the Medford News Weekly and, full disclosure, I write for the outlet and was the one
who urged publisher Bill Tauro to bring it to town.
Objectively speaking, Mr. Tauro picking up the new police hires is the top story of the week, in my opinion,
followed by the Patch story on the school and the union https://patch.com/massachusetts/medford/both-sides-praised-medford-schools-union-approve-agreement

Mr. Kennedy's blog did reference the lack of media in Medford some months ago, and didn't include Medford News Weekly,
even though it comes out in paper form as well as online.
This article's focus is more about the impact of no media on the upcoming election, 269 days away, and how it benefits
the cronyism and stagnation in Medford in a way that is harmful to the 60,000 or so citizens as well as the city's visitors,
civic groups and businesses.

Meanwhile my blog, Medford Information Central,
has 1,790,054 visits as of 8:50 pm
One Million, Seven Hundred and Ninety Thousand and Fifty Four page views, 209,946 views to Two Million hits.
You can't publish a blog in Brookline or Malden or Worcester and get that many page views, and that a blog can
achieve that is evidence of how news-starved the citizens of Medford are.
Of course having the courage to publish the L'Italien Report and D.A. Marian Ryan's Brady list takes the sort
of courage not seen in the news media in Medford for at least the past sixty years.

I have a vision of uniting a REAL Public Access station in Medford with Tufts TV, WMFO 91.5 and a local
radio station on either Low Power FM or Low Power (expanded band) AM - even if it is a Part 15 FCC
small outlet.
But the powers that be, a city council more concerned about voting for its own paycheck despite playing
second fiddle to a mayor under Plan A government, and sizzling social media that Lisa Evangelista's
MPS advantage is allergic to just won't cut it.
Evangelista Overpaid for MPS Advantage
Allegedly a hire that was a favor to an outgoing mayor.
https://www.mpsadvantage.education/writer/lisa-m-evangelista/
So is the government controlled private access station,
Medford Community Media, which hijacked
my name, Community Media Medford, because they have no vision, no desire to disseminate information,
no work ethic.
As the city council hands an award to Patrick Gordon
the Zoom feature is fizzling out; the contiguous
channels on Verizon (which cablecast other cities and towns) harsh and unbearable to listen to.
The award wasn't for good programming, it was Mr. Gordon's ability to be a lap dog for as corrupt a city council as you'll find in the Commonwealth.
Tweedle Dee as Council President, Tweedle Dumb - the b intentional, of course, at the end of dum
because we're speaking about Adam Knight here...are not the most honorable of people, and George Scarpelli as chaperone is like having Bernie Madoff handle your finances.
So why are those jokers on the city council of Medford?
Why am I the only editor publishing the city council agenda (as well as sub committee and Committee of the Whole) on Facebook and on the mighty Medford Information Central?
(dot com!) ???
Why is there no discussion of charter review and charter change each and every week in the paper.
I have filed and right now in the process of filing more complaints on Medford and Malden access
television, bringing a legal team on board, and intend to litigate against both cities prior to the election if both Medford and Malden don't come to their senses in regards to their private access television stations.
Term limits are vital to keep the news fresh.
Term limits in city government.
Term limits in local media.
The failure to not having this "crop rotation," if you will, is allowing one Michael Marks, Rick Caraviello, Adam Knight, George Scarpelli and others to doing the same old /same old,
having the only voice in the city, and being ineffective at working with this mayor, the past mayor, and certainly Emperor McGlynn who came before.
It takes courage to take this kind of stand.
When Malden has two stalkers, one of them violent, on a board of directors of the local TV station, when Medford takes advantage of the hard work that this writer did
shutting down Medford Community Cablevision, Inc., exposing the fraudsters on the Medford Police Department, and giving credit where it is due ....
and a lashing or two where IT is due, you get the picture
You get the picture loud and clear.
It is cronyism, pure and simple, that helped kill off the media in Medford.
Police Chief Jack Buckley's two black eyes from the L'Italien Report being published just one fact currently in evidence
To Be Continued
