Officials said the eastbound rotary bridge damaged during the incident will also be reopened, when the temporary repair work is complete, which is anticipated at some point on Thursday and Roosevelt Circle (Route 28) will be restored to two travel lanes with some lane restrictions until full, permanent repairs are made.

MassDOT officials said crews are demolishing damaged portions of the bridge to ensure there are no falling hazards.

“Engineers are approaching the demolition work carefully to ensure that further damage to the bridge does not occur as damaged portions are removed.,” MassDOT officials said in a statement on Wednesday. “This is being done by strategically cutting structural elements to relieve tension and disconnect them from the rest of the bridge structure.”

The bridge was damaged when it was struck by a tractor-trailer at about 3:20 p.m. Monday afternoon. The 2013 Peterbilt 367 owned by Dove Transportation of Lincoln, Ala., was hauling a water clarifying tank and the driver, a 57-year-old Alabama man, is facing a $210 fine, according to State Police spokesman David Procopio. A 54-year-old woman, also from Alabama, who was riding in the truck as a passenger was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with “possible minor injuries” following the incident, he said.
