What's the hold up in Medford approving recreational marijuana shops?

So what’s the hold up?

In the three years since the first recreational use marijuana retail store opened in Massachusetts in November 2018, retail recreational sales have topped $2 billion dollars in gross sales, according to figures released by the state Cannabis Control Commission in September 2021.

Yes, that’s billion with a B. That revenue was generated by 165 retailers located throughout the Commonwealth supplying marijuana for adult recreational use. These, according to the state Cannabis Control Commission (CCC), have generated more than $600 million “of incremental tax revenue for the state and host communities.”  https://www.wickedlocal.com/story/medford-transcript/2022/02/24/medford-slow-approve-applicants-marijuana-dispensary-licenses/6877693001/?utm_source=wickedlocal-Medford%20Transcript%20Thursday%20Briefing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=daily_briefing&utm_term=list_article_thumb&utm_content=MASSACHUSETTS-WICKEDLOCAL-NLETTER22

Medford is a Johnny-come-lately to the recreational pot business.

True, city residents voted to legalize both medicinal (2012) and recreational use (2016) marijuana and the City Council created a zoning ordinance outlining the rules and regulations governing the establishments and determining city neighborhoods where these stores could be located (Mystic Avenue and Mystic Valley Parkway, Route 16, areas zoned Commercial II or Industrial.)
