When it comes to its COVID-19 response, the MBTA could do more, study says

When it comes to the MBTA’s response to protecting workers and passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic, a study suggests there’s more that could be done.
The study, titled “U.S. Transit Systems & COVID-19: How does the MBTA compare?,” published by the Pioneer Institute, notes that there are measures the MBTA has taken to help during the pandemic, including pushing for rear-door boarding, increasing the amount of cleaning supplies, and hanging up posters for the public on social distancing and education on how to stop virus transmission.

Can You SUE the MBTA for RECKLESS DRIVING?

Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 90, section 24 prohibits reckless driving of a motor vehicle. Section 24(2)(a) defines reckless driving as operating a motor vehicle in a way that endangers the lives and safety of the public, or engaging in drag racing. ... First, that the defendant operated a motor vehicle.

When the MBTA Might Be at Fault

The MBTA is not immune to having a civil claim brought against them should it become necessary, and in many cases it has become so. In order to successfully bring a claim against the MBTA, we will need to prove irresponsible or negligent conduct.
For example, perhaps it was noted that this particular bus needed repairs, but the higher-ups have concluded this was not a necessary expense at the time. If the bus is then involved in an accident caused by parts that needed repairs, the MBTA could be found liable.
Another common instance of MBTA fault is the hiring of inexperienced or ill-equipped drivers. If a bus driver has a history of poor driving, or no experience driving a bus and subsequently causes an accident, the MBTA could be partially to blame, as they should have done their due diligence prior to hiring the reckless bus driver.

Other Liable Parties

Although you certainly can file a claim against the MBTA, it is not as common to pursue these claims with the MBTA as the sole liable party, and someone else is usually also found to be at fault. For example, when a bus driver causes an accident due to distracted, drowsy, or aggressive driving, or if they were operating the bus while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the bus driver should be found liable.
In the event that there is something wrong with the bus itself, the manufacturer of the bus, parts manufacturers, safety inspectors, technicians who perform maintenance on the bus, and anyone else who shared responsibility for ensuring the busses safety prior to it being used for public transportation could be to blame alongside the MBTA.
Your lawyer will need to conduct an investigation into the collision in order to determine who is at fault, if you have a case, and how the MBTA may have contributed to your injuries, if at all.

WASHINGTON — The manufacturer of Lysol, a disinfectant spray and cleaning product, issued a statement warning against any internal use after President Donald Trump suggested that people could get an "injection" of "the disinfectant that knocks (coronavirus) out in a minute."
"As a global leader in health and hygiene products, we must be clear that under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body (through injection, ingestion or any other route)," a spokesperson for Reckitt Benckiser, the United Kingdom-based owner of Lysol, said in a statement to NBC News.

US braces for hardest week as coronavirus deaths surpass 9,000

WASHINGTON (REUTERS) - The United States enters one of the most critical weeks so far in the coronavirus crisis, with government officials warning that the death toll in places such as New York, Michigan and Louisiana was a sign of trouble to come in other states.
Still, governors of eight states resisted issuing stay-at-home orders aimed at slowing the spread of the respiratory disease, and some churches held large Palm Sunday services in defiance of such orders in their states.

New York, the hardest-hit state, reported on Sunday that, for the first time in a week, deaths had fallen slightly from the day before, but there were still nearly 600 new fatalities and more than 7,300 new cases.
