Medford officials demand funds to investigate allegations against mayor's office

In a unanimous vote Friday night, the Medford City Council demanded the mayor's office appropriate $30,000 to enable the legislative body to fund its own investigation into allegations made by two department heads that she and her staff created a hostile work environment and neglected financial obligations to one of its employees.

The council set a deadline of Monday, June 28 at 5 p.m., for the mayor to release the funds. The council requested $15,000 to hire a third-party investigator and the additional $15,000 to retain its own counsel as they determined that using the acting city solicitor, Kim Scanlon, may create a conflict of interest.

The measures were taken at an emergency meeting scheduled by the council June 25. Both department heads, Nunley Benjamin, and Michael Durham, and their attorney, Mark Rumley, the former city solicitor, attended the meeting.   https://www.wickedlocal.com/story/medford-transcript/2021/06/28/medford-city-council-30-k-fund-investigation-into-toxic-work-environment-financial-malfeasance/5337336001/
