OpEd here:

Uggg. It's like sometime NY Post loon writer Isaac Schorr
seeing a Joe Battenfeld Boston Herald headline these days.

The old Creem magazine comment about the post-Morrison
band The Doors: Howie Carr's column is about as effective
as a used prophylactic, but at least he has his (unlistenable
these days) radio show for 15 more pair of eyeballs, Battenfeld
is languishing in a world where his YouTube gets nothing.
No traction.  If a Battenfeld falls in the forest and there's no
one there to hear it...

Battenfeld: Mainstream media self-imploding and riven by internal divisions over bias

The Boston Herald Screams:

Never has the media reached such a low point. Whether it’s local news dying, or internal feuds or layoffs, or buyouts even at publicly funded radio, the wobbly mainstream press is self-imploding.

Dan Kennedy's media nation noted last October the dwindling
Herald readership, but from his glass house Battenfeld - lost
in Trump land - is throwing more stones.

First, in a Blue state, the Herald needs to stop catering to
the animosity of their red-meat subscribers ...maybe go
towards the lost Boston Phoenix readers and get more
nightlife-oriented. Nightclubs advertise.
They can find the music content for upcoming live
performances on Facebook

And back off of the misguided politics.  Laura Trump is not
going to get you new readers stealing for her father-in-law
who is (thankfully) headed to prison.  She can join him in
a co-ed jail cell while Donald paws at her dreaming of
a young E. Jean Carroll...or Marla Maples, seems with his
cognitive decline and brain deficiency he can't tell the
difference.  Poor Marla is wondering which golf course
Trump intends to bury her on for a tax deduction....don't
worry Marla, Letitia James will take good care of you
once she owns the alleged resorts.

Massachusetts is pro-Biden.  You want increased circulation?
Go with a winner.  Because right now there's a criminal case
for cowardly Donald, and it is not looking pretty.  Having hacks
like Battenfeld, Carr and deceptive subscription tactics is not
a formula for success.

Over at the Herald, meanwhile, journalist Mark Pickering has taken a look at the latest AAM reports, which cover the six-month period ending March 31 of this year. Pickering, writing for the newsletter Contrarian Boston (sub. req.), found that paid weekday print circulation at the Herald was down 20%, from 20,353 to 16,043; on Sunday, the print Herald dropped 16%, from 23,702 to 19,799.

The Herald’s combined print and digital weekday circulation dropped from 50,707 to 46,783, for a decline of around 8%. But remember, AAM’s digital numbers are somewhat inflated, as some print subscribers are also counted as digital subscribers. As with the weekday numbers, add about 30,000 digital subscribers to get the Herald’s combined paid Sunday circulation.
