Medford Awards Over $75,000 in Grant Funding

to 23 Small Businesses for Storefront Improvements

With Second Round of Funding Complete, City has Awarded over $100K in Grant
Funding to Local Businesses through this Program

(MEDFORD) The City’s Office of Planning, Development, and Sustainability awarded over $75,000 in
grant funding to 23 local small businesses and property owners during the second round of the Small
Business Façade Improvement Grant Program this winter, Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn announced. The
Storefront improvement program provides matching CDBG funding up to $5,000 to business and
commercial property owners interested in making street front exterior improvements to lighting, awnings,
signage, window boxes, and paint.

In the first round of the program, the City awarded over $50,000 to local businesses and property owners.
Between the two rounds, 35 small businesses and property owners will receive funding to help enhance
their storefronts, bringing new vibrancy to Medford’s commercial areas.

In addition to supporting façade improvement projects through the Storefronts grant program, the City is
also developing a set of storefront design guidelines for Medford business and commercial property
owners to reference when making improvements. The grant consultant is assisting awardees with design
options. The City expects to begin seeing the results of these enhancements in the spring and summer of
2023.

Our small businesses are incredibly resilient and have weathered historic challenges in the past few
years,” Mayor Lungo-Koehn said. “I’m thrilled that the City is able to contribute to helping our
downtowns thrive through this grant programs and look forward to working with each of the grantees to
bring their visions to life.”
