After the controversy concerning Italian discrimination in Medford over a school committee voting to change the name of the Columbus Elementary School, the mayor of Medford, Breanna Lungo Koehn
found an acceptable solution.   "I always make lemonade out of lemons" Lungo Koehn told 7 News Boston.  "My poetry about lemons might be bad, but I'm still an attorney-at-law seeking to improve the city" she joked to this television station.

The naming rights evolved after a string of bizarre events.  School committee vice chair Paul Ruseau was stopped by an Everett Costco security guard when he walked out of the store with three computers in a shopping cart.  First he gave the guard an i.d. under the name Paul Comeau Jr. claiming that he had "forgot" to pay and was willing to go back into the store to do so.  Then Comeau referenced that a former city council president forgot to pay for a stack of groceries at Stop and Shop in Wellington, took the groceries home, went back to the store to confess and got a $25.00 gift card for his "honesty."

We checked with the Wellington manager of the Stop and Shop who admitted that it did happen and that he was the manager who offered the gift card.  Strangely, that council president, with a nephew at Sheriff Koutoujian's office, was involved in a number of legal issues at Wells Fargo and after the story broke on a local blog regarding multiple indiscretions, the councilor did not run again.

Dingolo et al v. Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC et al 1:2010cv10117

Jan 26, 2010 - Plaintiff: Robert Dingolo and Dianne Dingolo. Defendant: Wells Fargo Advisors,LLC and Rxxxx X. Mxxxxxx, Jr. Case Number: 1:2010cv10117.

When the security guard didn't fall for it and ran a CORI on the school committee vice chair, COSTCO lawyers found that Comeau/Ruseau had swiped a computer at a New Hampshire school, was arrested, tried, convicted and did prison time.   Ruseau told 7 News "I laughed; really, that story is as old as Columbus discovering America," a Freudian slip, perhaps, as Ruseau was in the Boston Globe demanding a police detail after his vote for the Columbus school.

Medford Police Chief Buckley sent a number of police officers over to try to quell the problem.  Officers Cannava, Cardarelli, Casey, Cassarino, Champa, Chirribi, Conway, Cugliati - the eight "c's" as the chief likes to call them were sent in succession, but Costco lawyers objected as they were all on District Attorney Marian Ryan's Brady list for Disclosure meaning, there might be problems in a court of law due to their untrustworthy status.

A previous 7 News report puts the story into the proper context:

Supporters say statues and symbols of Columbus are important aspects of Italian-American heritage.

“That school has been named the Columbus school for 92 years and it was paying homage to the Italian-Americans that lived in that community and really built that community,” Medford resident and business owner Kelly Catalo said.

Catalo said that because the vote took place virtually and was not well-publicized, not everyone got the chance to weigh in.

The Medford Police dept. then sent Paul Covino to intervene, offering D'Amico, DeCristofaro, Dimare, Derek Doherty, Patrick Doherty, Duffy - "the six D's" Covino stated "and Furtado too" angering the lawyers for Costco.

THESE ARE ALL BRADY-LISTED officers possibly unable to show up in court.    Costco attorneys threatened to subpoena ex clerk Edward P. Finn when they were informed that "Finn retired, after failing to show up under subpoena to criminal court."  A subliminal message that Chief Buckley wasn't interested in helping Costco prosecute the case against Ruseau.

Internal Affairs Barry Clemente and soon-to-retire Captain Alan Doherty tried to palm off Grubb, handsome Charlie Harnett - Buckley's pet, Iozza, equally handsome Matt Jones,  Lopez, Martin, McNeill...the lawyer for Costco said "Skip the next one, I already feel like I'm in a Monty Python parody.  Hey, your names sound familiar, didn't I see a movie of the week on you guys?"  Clemente said "No, that was my dad and the Captain's brother.  You got a problem? TAKE ONE OF OUR COPS TO PROSECUTE THIS CASE  ...we have Shawn Norton whom I can have drive you when he's off duty, if you know what I mean."

The outraged Costco lawyer was losing his cool and said "this is intimidation. We pull up CORI checks here quicker than  you can say Patrick Gordon, failed access manager" but Clemente was relentless Olsen, Passacantilli, Mike Pellegrino, Robert Richard or Richard Robert take your pick, Raffaele, Rogers, Smith, Tomaz

Mayor Lungo-Koehn finally stepped in to negotiate, a rarity as her chief of staff usually handles these matters, but Dave Rodrigues was talking to the FBI about his alleged role, if any, in the Federal Investigation of Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria when Rodrigues was liaison to the Encore Casino, much like that other pathological liar, Richard F. Caraviello of the Medford City Council, an individual who lost in criminal court yet is still on the council.

"You've got a real rogues' gallery you inherited, Madame Mayor" the Costco attorney, exasperated, put on the table.

"Hey, I've got lots of lemonade, we can sell some at Costco with all these lemons I'm carrying around like a ton of bricks.  Trump thinks he knows the art of the deal, I'll show you the art of the deal.  We will give you naming rights to the Columbus school if you drop the charges on Comeau or Ruseau or whatever the heck he's calling himself this week."

"Sure," the Costco attorney said, "but we want that computer Ruseau tucked in the back of Chief Buckley's vehicle, if you please."
