WILMINGTON — Former Executive Director Karen DeJoie left the Wilmington Housing Authority early this year with “a golden handshake” from Authority Chairman Robert DiPasquale — three weeks worth of extra paid vacation amounting to about $2,000.

Now the Housing Authority wants the money back.

Board member Marilyn Cox yesterday pushed through a motion for a letter to be sent to DeJoie, asking her to return the money that was given to her unilaterally by DiPasquale.

“It was inappropriate and she was not entitled to it,” Cox said.

DiPasquale voted against the motion, arguing that the board should look to the future. DeJoie’s contract ended on Jan. 31.
