The Theater and Events Production Manager at New England Aquarium oversees the Simons Theatre, theater-related vendor and film distributor relationships, all theater projection and audio-visual equipment, and the execution of select events. This person runs day-to-day theater operations and regularly scheduled movies, collaborates on theater staffing, and works closely with internal colleagues and external clients to execute high-profile events, such as lectures and panel discussions.New England Aquarium has implemented comprehensive safety protocols for employees and visitors to minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure. SCHEDULE
This is a full-time (40 hours) regular position offering a comprehensive benefits package. The regular schedule is Monday – Friday with the flexibility required to accommodate events on nights and weekends as needed.
Essential Functions
- Sources films, maintains relationships with main theater-related vendors (such as Giant Screen Cinema, K2 Studio, SK Films), identifies other film sources, and negotiates contracts for the Simons Theatre (under the guidance of the Chief Financial Officer).
- Is responsible for the maintenance and management of all theater equipment and audiovisual (AV) infrastructure, including managing the relationship with the vendors who install and support the equipment (such as D3D, Crestron and CCS); builds new relationships with vendors in support of theater operations to optimize operations.
- Manages theatre operations and technical needs for special, high-profile events in the theater for internal colleagues and external clients, ensuring a smooth execution for participants and audiences. Areas within scope include but are not limited to, sound (microphones, including wireless mics), lighting, cameras/live streaming/recording, and presentations and films.
- Collaborates closely with internal departments
including, but not limited to, Information Technology, External
Relations, Executive Office, Marketing/Communication, and catering
partner.
Minimum Training and Experience
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in technical theatre
- Minimum of five years of experience working in theatre or giant screen theatre operations management and experience with various types of corporate events, lectures, etc.
- Ability to flex schedule to work evenings and weekends required.
- Working knowledge of the technical aspects of theater and convening space operations including lighting, audio. Digital film/laser projection equipment experience preferred.
- Basic level of experience in set, lighting, sound, AV, or projection equipment operation and troubleshooting.
- Willingness to learn Giant Screen technology
- Strong organization, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in a non-profit and/or a conservation-oriented environment preferred.
- Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills with experience working with both internal audiences as well as external customers.
- Contract negotiation skills preferred.
