Greenline Nightwork Planned, Thanks SMRTO

Night work planned for Thursday, September 23, through Wednesday, September 29

(Work Schedules are subject to change based on weather, workforce availability, supply-chain issues and other factors)

All,

Installation of the fence between the Commuter Rail and GLX tracks will continue to be the main nighttime activity this week. The foundations for the fence posts, which involve the most disruptive portion of the work, are complete on long stretches of track. The remaining foundations and the installation of the fence posts and screening is expected to continue for the next few weeks.  Less disruptive work will continue in other areas similar to past weeks.

Notable nighttime work areas this week include:

  • A night shift will continue on the tracks between Central Street and Gilman Square for the coming week (September 23 - 29). Work will begin each night around 9:00 p.m. and will continue through approximately 5:00 a.m. These work hours are expected to continue for the next few weeks but the work areas are expected to shift frequently so no one area is expected to be impacted for this entire duration. The work involves heavy equipment which may produce elevated noise levels.  The purpose of the work is to install permanent fencing between the Commuter Rail tracks and the newly installed Green Line tracks. The work has been scheduled at night because the contractor is unable to access the tracks during the day when the commuter rails are in use. This schedule may change based on when track outages are available.  Also, retaining wall and noise wall panel installation may continue during this period depending on panel availability and ability to get track time.

  • In addition to wall panel placement, signal and electrical work is expected in and around various GLX station platforms. This work is usually quieter than wall panel placement as it does not generally require the use of heavy machinery.

We also encourage our followers to check for regular construction updates at www.mass.gov/glx.
