Mayor Stephanie Muccini Burke is pleased to announce that former Mayor Michael J. McGlynn’s official photograph will be unveiled during a ceremony at Medford City Hall in the Howard F. Alden Memorial Chamber on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at 6:30 PM. All are welcome to attend!
Mayor McGlynn was sworn in on January 4, 1988 as the first Mayor under the Plan A form of government. Under his administration, and with the help of elected officials, city employees and citizen volunteers, four elementary and two middle schools were constructed.
At Medford High School, 17 state of the art science labs were built, and the Olympic sized pool and gymnasium were both rehabilitated. A new Department of Public Works Building replaced the former 1930’s WPA project and Veterans Honor Roll Memorial Park.
Throughout his tenure, despite some tough economic times, Medford was always rated financially strong. He believed in caring for our environment and celebrating Medford’s rich history and diversity.
Mayor McGlynn served as President of the Massachusetts Mayors Association, the Massachusetts Municipal Association and also served on the boards of the National League of Cities and the United Conference of Mayors. McGlynn, his wife Sheila, their children and grandchildren all call Medford home.
