The Public's Interest in Police Misconduct
A Joe Viglione Essay
Volunteering time, energy and intellect to benefit
the public

1)What is the "public interest"

2)What is the "public trust"

We need a city solicitor who acts responsibly.

Mark E. Rumley has an obligation to act responsibly.

Mr. Rumley is so used to fracturing his word, his oath of office, that he actually believes that he is above the law, the citizens who pay him be damned.

A quarter of the Medford Police Department - 112 individuals - found engaging in what the Medford Transcript called "police misconduct."

In Mark Rumley's irresponsibly late "Reconsideration" e mail, Rumley states clearly that the officers found in need of discipline have been named and have been sanctioned.    Rumley, no stranger to deceptions and abuse of the public, now claims because another investigation is ongoing at the office of the District Attorney, an "investigatory exemption" - that he wants the public to be blinded to what the public has the right to see.  Yet the investigation at the police department level, with a private investigator and WITH DETERMINATIONS, somehow isn't good enough?

Or is it an RRH  - Rumley Red Herring... another plot and scheme by the long-in-the-tooth city solicitor to DENY you, dear Medford resident, what you are entitled to see.

Could Rumley call in the FBI, CIA, State Police, U.S. Attorney Andrew E. Lelling  (https://www.bostonherald.com/2017/09/09/andrew-lelling-is-presidents-pick-to-replace-carmen-ortiz/ )  how many investigations can Rumley initiate to try to keep information from the public ???

The public that funds these individuals, from Rumley to the disciplined cops.
This essay is going to look at complementary critiques and investigations to enlighten the public to two areas -

1)What is the "public interest"

2)What is the "public trust"

Judge says impeachment inquiry is legal and justifies disclosing grand jury material

"Judge Howell resoudingly ruled!"  MSNBC  5:32 pm - live

She adds, "Tipping the scale even further toward disclosure is the public's interest in a diligent and thorough investigation into, and in a final determination about, potentially impeachable conduct by the President described in the Mueller Report."  Howell says the House is already conducting a legal impeachment investigation and that the courts can assist Congress in getting the administration to hand over documents or allow testimony, said Steve Vladeck, CNN legal analyst and professor at the University of Texas School of Law.
"Assuming the Court of Appeals agrees with her in these respects," Vladeck said, "that will not only put nearly everything that the House is doing on firm legal ground, but it would also suggest that the White House's obstinacy was remarkably short-sighted."
