let's be honest here, Belson didn't conveniently "forget" or have a lapse in memory - if you know Roy E. Belson the way most do, HE LIED!

The city, which footed the roughly $2 million bill for the fields, expects to recoup much of the money it laid out by renting the facility during the fall, spring, and summer seasons. McGlynn said the rental fees will eventually help the city pay for the bond it took out to pay for the fields.
Bill Carr Jr., one of the principal organizers of the Field of Dreams
project, said the fields are already booked for this season, and he
expects similar demand in the spring and summer. But it wasn’t money
that drove the project, Carr said.
