Band Practice

There is more to life than Medford politics!

Band practice was amazing on a number of levels.
Four of us reunited from 40 years ago...yes, three of us have been playing over the six past years together on and off, but when we reunited with our drummer from 1974...it's like we didn't skip a beat.

We have a tribute to Aretha Franklin with my stories spoken inside the framework of the song(s)...it worked so well!

Guitarist morphed Lou Reed's Sister Ray into Jumpin' Jack Flash, and since I'm telling stories inside the songs, having attended the wakes of Lou Reed (Sister Ray) and Jimmy Miller (producer of Jumpin' Jack Flash) it made sense when our guitarmaster melted the two songs together in the middle of "Sister Ray."  It sizzled!

Unlike last year's hard-rocking Godzilla band - one of the guys had knee replacement surgery...ouch, the others had other commitments...no muss, no fuss...three of us from last year just make some phone calls and..."voila" - I could do thirty gigs in a year with the 500 or more musicians we have played with mixing and matching...those of us still alive, that is.  Which is the magical thing about these reunion shows we are doing, we are getting to play with old friends - some in 2015, some in 2017, and now 2018... it truly is a chronicle forty years later, and after about 45 minutes (and not playing together in a year! except for three mini-shows the drummer, bass player and I did impromptu last month) ...boy did it gel by the end of the night.

Walked out of practice tonight feeling very good about how this new concept will play out at the show, a benefit for special abilities musicians at a high school in Massachusetts, the show, of course, will be on the beach.

Going to be a blast.   Very comfortable with the show we have planned...something old, something new...
