Medford completes draft of plastic bag ordinance
City Solicitor Mark Rumley presented the draft ordinance at the Council’s Sept. 25 meeting. The Council voted unanimously to tweak and finalize the draft at an upcoming Committee of the Whole.
Rumley explained that many different organizations and interest groups in the city, including the Office of Energy and Environment, the Building Department, local environmental groups and business groups, helped craft the ordinance over the last several months.
“What we did was we went through ordinances in the Commonwealth that pertain to plastic bags,” Rumley said. “From those ordinances, we tried to cull out and pick out the best we could find, and also give the most clarity and flexibility.”
