A construction company has agreed to pay $61,000 to workers who say they were exploited and underpaid while helping construct the housing development Modera Medford on Cabot Road last August.

An eight-month investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor found that Woburn-based Quest Construction engaged in employee misclassification and non-payment of overtime against painters who worked on the Modera Medford and Modera Hopkinton developments. Real Estate company Mill Creek, which built Modera Medford and Hopkinton, hired Quest as a subcontractor for painting during the construction process.

As many as 60 area employees are eligible for the settlement money, according to Jorge Rivera, a labor organizer with the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 35 (IUPAT DC35).
