a gamble ... for voters

Another Lake County public official gets indicted by the feds? Yawn. But another indicted public official gets elected back into the same office with that cookie jar? Come on. This would say less about the candidate and more about the voters, who obviously have the gambling problem.

Davich: Mayor's re-election a gamble ... for voters

The indictment claims that over a three-year period, the couple withdrew at least $18,500 from the bank account of the “Committee to Elect Keith Soderquist” and then traveled to local casinos.
In a second indictment, the couple is accused of having knowledge that the mayor’s stepdaughter stole money from city court coffers while aiding her from getting caught. The couple pleaded not guilty to several charges, including wire fraud, conspiracy and tax evasion.

It’s much more complex, with layers of legalese involved, but you get the idea. The feds say they caught him with his hand in the taxpayers’ cookie jar, and a trail of crumbs leads to a gambling habit.
