A SLAP ON THE F%#@ING WRIST

The corruption investigation into the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office and late Sheriff James DiPaola is wrapping up with an agreement nearly in hand that would allow the late sheriff’s sister, who was also his campaign treasurer, to pay a civil fine to avoid criminal prosecution, FOX Undercover has learned.

The investigation by Attorney General Martha Coakley began after a FOX Undercover report that DiPaola was taking cash from employees – pay to play to get ahead in his department.

DiPaola committed suicide in November 2010, but the investigation continued with the help of a grand jury.

FOX Undercover has learned that the Attorney General's Office is close to reaching a deal, with the late sheriff's sister, Patricia Covelle, who was the treasurer of DiPaola's political campaign.

As part of the pending deal, Covelle, would avoid criminal prosecution, but would agree to pay a $4,000 civil fine for campaign finance violations.
