Mystic Valley NAACP wants African American Police Chief.
From the Transcript:
It is paramount that the next Chief of Police in Medford holds a demonstrated engagement with the complicated issues that come with an increasing diverse population. Furthermore, the next Chief of Police should be willing to build trust with immigrant communities; have experience with community policing and safe communities policies; and be committed to issues around racial justice, ethnic profiling and diversity in the force. Preferably, the candidate will have significant administrative experience and chief-like experience in other communities.

The NAACP does not believe that the search for the next Chief of Police should be limited to the existing Police Department. Such a limited pool of candidates greatly limits the number of qualified candidates. We respectfully request that the City of Medford commit to an open and transparent search process for its next Chief of Police. We would welcome a meeting to discuss the issues raised in this letter at your earliest convenience.
CHERYL R RESPONDS
Sad that the last thing on their list is that they prefer he/she have administrative experience (but that isn’t required). 🤦🏻♀️.
Too bad this person couldn’t do some research into the process. Instead he chose to write a letter designed to rile people up. Very sad. Seems every time we have a job opening they are going to insist that a black person be hired. And then if a black person is hired claim it as some sort of victory for them. As if the person didn’t get the job on their qualifications but rather because they wrote a letter.
Our new super has almost three decades in education. She was qualified for the job and thus hired. Nothing to do with their letter. I didn’t see them at any of the meetings where I and others pushed them to have a super search committee to allow the public a hand in choosing finalists.
The city does not have to and frankly shouldn’t meet with the NAACP every time they have a job opening. Let them go talk to Neil if they want to talk to someone. Maybe Neil can explain how the hiring process for chief works. Or they can Google it together. 🙄
JOE V REPLIES:
"...allow the public a hand in choosing finalists" ? in a city that puts cable committees together (plural, the current one and the previous two) where those committees are rife with political hacks to do the bidding of the two administrations. J.D. at the high school is quite possibly the worst videographer in the history of the world. He "wins" awards that McGlynn set up, they keep people out, just as they do with two sports coaches who keep students from using batting cages and the Field of Dreams...oh, and one of those coaches is J.D., (Jack Dempsey) the bad videographer, and the other one's wife (referring to Mike Nestor and his wife)
does the CORI checks to intimidate people to keep them out of access TV. Get it? Sports, public access, the library, the high school, all interconnected by mayoral cronies, which is why they loathe me, they loathe you Cheryl, they despise Bob Penta, if you aren't with them you are the enemy. What a way to run a city. There should be more diversity at city hall, we need a council and school committee that reflects the city, but Neil uses ethnicity as a weapon, not to improve Medford but to keep all the subjects in line and throw people a bone. It's as sick as it is terrifying.
