Paul's a very good actor. When Camuso goes to "the dark side," which is quite often, he can make you think he actually knows what he is doing.

Camuso is NOT mayor material,
but even a bad actor can do a good job in the right role, and though Paul is mentally insufficient, mentally deficient when it's about governing, he would have done his best Bob Denver or Werner Klemperer
You may THINK Col. Klink is an idiot on Hogan's Heroes, but that's just great acting by Klemperer, a truly gifted player
Bob Denver as Maynard G Krebs or
Gilligan also able to perform roles where you BELIEVE that the actor is actually that incompetent.
Camuso can act COMPETENT, even though he lacks the know-how and the intuitive sense of making quick, on the spot decisions.
McGlynn is slick, VERY SLICK,
and McGlynn is dangerous...he is NOT stupid...but he allegedly has a drinking problem and flaws galore.
McGlynn can't bat 1,000, even though in his position as head of the Medford underworld, he has to.
McGlynn screwed up.
I would have chosen Stephanie over Camuso as well...but here's what this writer has that McGlynn doesn't...
