Couple charged with defrauding union of $2M
WINDHAM, N.H. — A local couple accused of defrauding members of a Massachusetts construction union out of $2 million worth of wages and benefits has pleaded not guilty in federal court.
Christopher and Kimberly Thompson, both 52, are charged with 18 counts of filing false reports and 18 counts of mail fraud (which are related to mailing the reports in to government offices), as well as one count of union benefit fund embezzlement. Their companies — AQE Inc. of Windham and Air Quality Experts Inc. of Atkinson — are facing the same charges.
The charges were filed in U.S. District Court in Boston by Assistant US Attorney Fred M. Wyshak Jr.
Wyshak said recently that the Thompsons are guilty of paying workers with the Tewksbury, Massaschusetts, Local 1421 of the Laborers International Union of North America, a lower wage than what was required under the union’s legally binding collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
