Dear City Of Medford,
The Excise Tax Bill states that the first commitment or demand is
due
for citizens on the Ides of March, 3/16/16 (the 15th and the 16th are
the Ides of March this year with 31 days on the calendar...or so I'm
told...)
Why is this not posted on the city website?
The Excise Tax is one of the most deceptive practices in any city or town, not
just Medford.
I
was told yesterday that if a person doesn't pay by the 16th that they
will be charged 12 % interest plus a $10.00 fee, yet the city website
says a $5.00 fee. Why is this?
FROM ABOVE LINK:
What if I mail in my excise tax payment late?
If an excise is not paid within 30 days from the issue date, the
account will be assessed a $5.00 demand charge plus interest. If
payment in full (including the demand charge) is not received within 14
days of the date issued, a warrant with additional charges will be
issued. Warrants are turned over to our Deputy Collector Kelley and
Ryan Associates for further collection and Registry action.
The second is a fee of $20.00 or $22.00 and a deputy going out with a warrant.
It is very confusing.
How
many bills are issued per year and when is the billing cycle? For
example, if you pay for a car you own at the start of the year by March
16th, how many billing cycles for cars purchased after March and
throughout the year? No one seems to have this information.
Could you - kindly - update the site and make it very clear as to when the date is and what the fees are?
It's only fair.
