November 19, City Council Requests auditor Ann Baker appear to discuss P/E/G finances

This Tuesday night at the Medford City Council

13-753-Offered by Councillor Penta
Be It Resolved that our City Auditor, Ann Baker, appear before the council with an inventory report of payments received and disbursed by the City to channel 3, 15 and 16 in addition to monies transferred form the Council's government account for the past five years and from what accounts were they disbursed to and from in addition to what is the exact amount that the City has withheld from the first quarter of this year to this day for PEG access money.

City Councilor Michael Marks has asked - for years now - about the P/E/G monies - all the monies flowing from the cable TV providers to City Hall for public, educational and governmental access tv.

I did receive a response to a Public Records Request from School Superintendent Roy Belson which tells where some of the P/E/G monies go.  I believe these are the "governmental" monies going to salaries, but they could be the "educational" - it is rather difficult to figure it out.  I base this theory on the fact that the city council could NOT get $400.00 for equipment (did you see the bad broadcast on 11/12/13?) yet there was about $200,000.00 for the government channel.  It is up to the council and to Ann Baker to sort it out.  We mere mortals only know so much.

So now cable TV subscribers and residents can have access to how much money we are paying into the P/E/G system and where it is going.

The P/E/G issue is on the Council radar, thanks to the efforts of this writer.  Without the May 21, 2013 Council meeting where we opened the lid to TV3, there might not have been the September 30 vote to dissolve the corporation and the October 2 dissolution.    On May 21 and May 28th there were conflicting reports from the station manager and the station president on the exact number of board members.  On November 12, 2013 we found that Century Bank is at least one of the banks where our money was deposited.  125 pages were delivered to me on November 12, 2013 from City Hall.  I presented information from those documents on the evening of November 12.  So it will be a full six months that the TV3 and P/E/G issue has now been addressed at the council.  Total success and victory due to persistence, hard work and patience in regards to a dark period in Medford's history, the censorship of citizens by a thoroughly unqualified and suspicious board or directors.
They are now all "former" members of the board of directors and one of them is up on charges of a false bomb threat after decades of that individual harassing dozens of Medford residents and getting away with it.

Hopefully, justice will be served.  The next date for the ex-board member of TV3 in Somerville Court for the charge of a false bomb threat is November 25, six days after the council meeting.

Police Chief Leo A. Sacco also noted to the local press that the investigation of racism by the now-dissolved board of TV3 has been handed to the DA's office for further scrutiny and possible criminal charges allegedly against the board members of TV3, two of them who post liberally on the Patch

He (Police Chief Sacco) said the detective’s findings would be shared with the Middlesex District Attorney’s office, which will ultimately decide whether or not to press criminal charges.  (a quote from the weekly newspaper in Medford.)
