Dear City Council:

A year ago a person, Robert A. Maiocco, found to have multiple complaints filed against him as a Financial Advisor (FA) at Wells Fargo, was forced into the presidency of the Medford City Council, putting an allegedly untrustworthy individual in a position to handle financial matters on behalf of all citizens, and putting him a heartbeat away from becoming Mayor.  The contentious vote and headlines that followed were evidence of a selfish man, Maiocco, serving himself rather than being a "public servant."  We cannot allow a tragic mistake like that to happen two years in a row.

It was only due to the courage of one citizen that Mr. Maiocco had to recuse himself from running for office again, no matter what the spin the Medford Transcript put on it.  Maiocco was disgraced and had to resign.  But he could have been Mayor had Mike McGlynn been removed, incapacitated or indicted.

Maiocco, a first vice president at Wells Fargo investment advisers
was charged in a complaint for 1.8 million dollars and settled for 312,000.00 or so with attorney fees, a whopping $402,000.00.  That's more than DOUBLE what Stanley Komins of West Medford Hillside Little League is charged with in Somerville District Court.  That Maiocco said of Komins after Komins' arrest "he always did a good job" shows the insensitivity to the citizens that Maiocco had.  Also, there were THREE complaints filed against Maiocco in his day job of Financial Adviser. Why was he not upfront and honest with the citizens and his fellow councilors about such an outrageous accusation and monstrously huge settlement?

We cannot let this happen again, which is why Paul A. Camuso needs to be properly vetted, or the City Council needs to be sued, litigated against by the citizens, for abuse of power and not looking out for the best interests of the Medford community.

The citizens were abused by the Maiocco appointment, and the citizens need to be PROTECTED from a potentially worse appointment, that of Maiocco's suspicious nephew, Paul A. Camuso.   The thought of Camuso, the individual with the worst attendance record on the council, being appointed to a position of great power is tough for residents to swallow.   Voter apathy is no reason for a person of questionable background to be close to becoming Mayor through the back door, should health or legal problems ensnare Michael J. McGlynn.

Put "Robert A. Maiocco wells fargo complaints" into Google and see the embarrassing information that appears; information that hurts the city of Medford:

There were THREE COMPLAINTS found on Maiocco, yet he listed only ONE on the disclosure form on the web.  That was not honest of the retired "council president" - and is a BIG reason why his nephew-by-marriage, Paul A. Camuso, needs to be PROPERLY VETTED, just as Taxi Cab drivers were vetted by Mr. Camuso.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.  Yet, Camuso seeks an office with power that is one thousand times more tangible than that of a taxi cab driver, thus, we should have a thousand times the scrutiny, unless Mr. Camuso wants to dishonestly slip into the presidency, grab the extra three thousand dollars, citizens be damned.

Mr. Camuso should be vetted as surely as we now vet members of boards and commissions in Medford; with MORE scrutiny than a Taxi Cab driver receives, and the employers, each and every citizen of Medford, need to have that information publicly available on the city website to make a determination if we want to hire someone who might not be fit to be Mayor.

The citizens of Medford are the employers.  They have questions that Paul A. Camuso needs to answer prior to taking a position that would pay him an additional three thousand dollars.  Citizens want to be treated fairly and not forced to accept an unqualified individual to be a heartbeat away from the corner office.

Paul A. Camuso is unfit to be president of the Medford City Council.
The residents deserve better and each councilor that casts a vote for Paul A. Camuso to be appointed to a position he is unqualified for, will be held accountable for this travesty.

Some questions for Paul A. Camuso:

On the same day you plan on taking the presidency, a close friend of yours is in a pretrial conference, INDICTED BY A GRAND JURY in Woburn Superior Court for a false bomb threat.  Along with Gary Zappelli giving you unfettered access to the TV station denied many residents, you engaged in harassment tactics on TV3 Medford aimed at humiliating people you disagreed with.  Your poor judgment in consorting with an alleged felon, especially given your position at Sheriff DiPaola and Sheriff Koutoujian's law enforcement office, is key evidence as to why you should not be president of the city council What do you have to say in your defense?

On a post about rock star Madonna on Google, Camuso's good friend actually makes a public statement prior to his pretrial conference.   Does Mr. Camuso stand by his good, good friend's actions and consider the alleged threat of bodily harm to be "artistic freedom?"

Gary Zappelli

On September 4, 2013 I was arrested for expressing my artistic freedom - Justice will be my Freedom.

A GRAND JURY disagreed with Mr. Zappelli, as do the police and the office of the District Attorney.  We want to know:

a)what Paul Camuso thinks about his friend's actions

b)Why Camuso protected Gary Zappelli when complaints were lodged by Joanne Codi, John Byers, Pat Fiorello, Joe Viglione and many, many, many others against Paul Camuso's very close, good, good friend.

Q: Did you ever pay an individual at Medford Community Cablevision, Inc. for cable TV time while knowing that there was censorship, illegal banning of residents and harassment of members by the board of directors?

Q: TV3 is a 501c3, prohibited from promoting or attacking candidates for public office.  Yet TV 3 violated this rule with impunity.

Not only did Mr. Camuso NOT call TV 3 out on its abuse of the rules governing 501c3's., Camuso ENJOYED the abuse of the rules for his own personal gain.

Why should Camuso be rewarded with the presidency when the facts show Camuso cannot abide by laws governing the rest of the citizens of Medford?

Q: Stephanie Muccini Burke and Mark Rumley had information to present to the council regarding TV3.  You, Paul Camuso, thwarted this effort to protect your friends at TV3, who are now dissolving as they failed to provide access to the community; failed to abide by their agreement.  Why should citizens accept you as President of the City Council when you blatantly violated the rights of the people at what is called "the people's forum."  That the Mayor is the Issuing authority was your excuse, but the real reason was you did not want your friends at MCC TV3 to be exposed.  Now you want Three Thousand Dollars more and to be in a position to inhibit free speech and stifle 1st Amendment Rights at "The People's Forum.'  How can we believe you intend to change your behavior now?

Q: Like your uncle-by-marriage, former president Robert Maiocco, you have used the bully pulpit to slam your fists, talk above the speakers and even humiliate residents with lies.  This kind of invective is an embarrassment to our community, and since you are guilty of it, what credible evidence is there that this sophomoric behavior will not continue?

This is just a small portion of the questions I have for Paul Camuso, which will be asked of him at the City Council, and which he needs to answer honestly.

Sincerely,

The leader of the opposition
