Grand Jury Indictments Announced: 8 Medford Cases Included

All of Medford's defendants are over the age of 25.


MEDFORD, MA—Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced multiple Grand Jury indictments Monday, including two that involve Medford cases and area residents.
Here is a look at the indictments:

  • Jose Astacio, 35, of Brockton, was charged with trafficking over 36 grams of heroin (2 counts) and trafficking cocaine. The Assistant District Attorney is Nate Burris.
  • Antonio Cartegena, 39, was charged with armed assault in a dwelling, armed burglary, home invasion (2 counts), and larceny in a building. The Assistant District Attorney is Kate Kleimola.
  • Joe Derat, 27, of Boston, was charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance, subsequent offense. The Assistant District Attorney is Kevin Collins.
  • John Doe a.k.a “Jorge Luis Gonzalez”, of Lawrence, was charged with trafficking over 36 grams of heroin, possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance, witness intimidation, possession of a stolen RMV document, and furnishing a false name. The Assistant District Attorney is Nate Burris.
  • Jendry Morales, 50, of Chelsea, was charged with trafficking cocaine and distribution of a Class B substance. The Assistant District Attorney is Kevin Collins.
  • Eric Norman, 25, of Lynn, was charged with armed burglary, home invasion (3 counts), armed assault in a dwelling, masked armed robbery, and larceny in a building. The Assistant District Attorney is Kate Kleimola.
  • Benito Ruiz-Rivera, 26, of Boston, was charged with trafficking over 36 grams of cocaine and possession of a Class A substance. The Assistant District Attorney is Laura Miller.
  • Jaisan Sheers, 33, of Boston, was charged with trafficking over 36 grams of heroin, trafficking over 36 grams of cocaine, possession with intent to distribute a Class A substance, subsequent offense, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, subsequent offense, and possession with intent to distribute a Class E substance, subsequent offense. The Assistant District Attorney is Nate Burris.
