When the Lower St. Croix Valley Cable Commission quits paying the approximately $20,000 fee, it may return it to the five cities. Bottom line: Subscribers’ (my) money becomes a phantom tax —a way for the cities to make revenue and provide no service.
Many residents have written or called VACTV, asking to keep school sports and performances; church services; and school, county board and local-government meetings broadcast on the PEG channels.
Don’t watch PEG channels? What about part of your cable payment going directly to city coffers? Why not a cheaper cable invoice? Can’t be done, per the Cable Commission chair — yet the commission will take your money — a phantom tax.
The Cable Commission should have done due diligence and asked (before it quit paying): What happens to the valuable open-channel space? Under the leadership of the Lower St. Croix Valley Cable Commission, Comcast gains big while subscribers are underhandedly taxed.
PEG channels are going dark. Contact your city council.
