This morning, I signed an order declaring a Public Health Emergency in the City of Medford. Declaring a local emergency will help free up funding and other important resources to assist our community in responding to the COVID-19 health crisis and is the latest in a series of bold actions we are taking in Medford to address the situation. You can see the full text of this order at www.medfordma.org/coronavirus-information.

Yesterday, Governor Baker announced new orders on public gatherings, restricting gatherings of more than 25 people in any public location. For this reason and to for the health and safety of our residents, we will be closing public playgrounds. Particularly in playgrounds with permanent play structures, viruses can easily be spread. Again, these are not actions we take lightly, but we must do all that we can to do our part to slow the spread of this virus not only in our city, but across the region and the state.
Governor Baker's recent order also restricts restaurants and bars from food service other than take out or delivery operations. We understand the critical impact this has on our local businesses, and we will work with them to do what we can to support them through this crisis. If your restaurant will provide take out or delivery options, please email Jackie Piques at jpiques@medford-ma.gov and we will add your business to a published list on our social media feeds and on medfordma.org. Additionally, if you're not already aware, please check sba.gov for guidance and resources that may be available to you from the Small Business Administration.
