As an expert on the music of Janis Joplin I was surprised to find, on an NAMM Joplin site, that the producer of Bobby Sherman - Jackie Mills - was key in Janis Joplin's  life  - "
Jackie Mills as a drummer put down the beat for jazz and big band stars such as Tommy Dorsey, Charlie Barnet, Dizzy Gillespie and Billie Holiday. As a record producer, he played a critical role in the careers of Janis Joplin, Irene Kral and Bobby Sherman."https://www.namm.org/category/term/janis-joplin

Julie Do Ya Love Me was arranged by Al Capps
Producer(s)Jackie Mills[1]
Arranged and conducted by Al Capps

Al Capps produced the magnificent Cher recording of "The Way of Love," a classic in France from the wonderful Francois Hardy.  That he arranged the stunning Bobby Sherman record is no surprise.

The White Plains had a hit in England with the song - Julie Do Ya Love Me:

It's interesting, for sure, and an interesting arrangement, but it has not the heart and soul, believe it or not, of a young teen idol, Bobby Sherman.

Intriguing is that both versions have insanely wonderful drumming, and the White Plains release has attractive guitar popping in and out, but the Jackie Mills production for Sherman is overwhelming and great.

White Plains  Baby Loves Lovin

The strings and the entusiasm make this, especially great drumming here as well on this rendition listed first:

The hit is sweet...a perfectly crafted pop tune, drums more subdued here, it's more fun on the live take.
