PLEASE POST TITLE: ​City Clerk, CITY OF MEDFORD POSITION STATUS: ​Full-time, non-union position with benefits APPOINTED BY: ​City Council BUDGETED SALARY: ​$93,427.88 to $109, 258.24 annual plus $1,800 in stipends as applicable SUPERVISION EXERCISED: ​Supervises 1 Assistant City Clerk, 3 Clerical Staff and 2 Registrars. In addition, on Election Day responsible for 96 + Election Officials/Workers Effected Date of Employment​- September 12, 2018 The City of Medford is seeking qualified applicants for the position of City Clerk. The City Clerk is appointed by the Medford City Council and performs all the duties as defined in Massachusetts General Laws, the Ordinances and Charter of the City of Medford. 

As the official record keeper for the City, the Clerk’s Office files and maintains series of records such as vital records (births, deaths and marriages), Business Certificates, Board of Appeal and Planning Board decisions, municipal ordinances and minutes of all boards and commissions. 

The City Clerk also issues a variety of licenses and permits such as marriage licenses, auctioneer permits, Peddlers Registrations, Dog Licenses and raffle and bazaar permits, Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates As Clerk to the City Council, the office develops and distributes the Council agenda, keeps minutes of the meetings, provides notification of Council actions to affected parties and issues licenses on its behalf. As the City’s Chief Election Officer, the City Clerk is responsible for all aspects of voter registration, absentee voting and election administration for all elections and serves as the Campaign Finance Officer for local elections. The City Clerk serves as member of the Board of Registrars of Voters and Clerk to the Board of Registrars of Voters 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIRMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in business, government or related field and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a managerial and supervisory role. 

A combination of education and experience totaling 10 years of relevant experience may be substituted. Medford Resident and Registered Voter of the City of Medford Required THE CITY OF MEDFORD IS AN EEO/AA / 501 EMPLOYER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABLITIES: Working knowledge of elections laws as set forth by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Ability to use sound judgment, discretion, tact and confidentiality. Excellent written and oral communication and customer service skills.
