Evaluating Mayor Lungo-Koehn's First 2 Months
Jan 5 inauguration to March 5

Great Leaders are Decisive And Firm. They make the tough choices and show their leadership skills by example.
We've yet to see a choice by Mayor Lungo-Koehn that equals her strength on the gun magazine issue.

The previous administration of Muccini-Burke would run and hide from issues. It was when Breanna Lungo-Koehn uncovered the gun magazine that Breanna bucked the system.
This kind of bold governing from a city councilor is an element of what brought Lungo-Koehn to power. Two months in my readers are asking a pertinent question: though the atmosphere is more cordial at city hall, some people still feel like the old administration's policies from the dark ages are lurking in the shadows.

The elephant in the room, coming at the Lungo-Koehn administration like a softball thrown at 5 miles per hour is, of course, the Brady List and the L'Italien Report.
It is the #1 topic from February 10, 2020 to March 5th on a blog that has over one million and a half views - 1,557,564 with 22,357 in the past month.
These are facts that would have Muccini-Burke running for cover. With public reaction to the facts that this journalist has published so intense Mrs. Burke's first thought is to try to change the topic.
Breanna Lungo-Koehn needs to address the issue head on, more than just her public essay about it. This issue is very live, very real and of great public interest.
Here are the top 5 items that Mayor Lungo-Koehn should have addressed in the first two months if she wants us to believe her campaign themes of community, unity, integrity, transparency.
5)Pay to Park. Bob Penta and Breanna Lungo-Koehn understood how essential parking is to benefiting businesses within the city limits. Knowing Mr. Penta as I do, he would have put the parking issue front and center.
2 months in, where is Breanna?
4)The DPW and Medford Housing
Under McGlynn and Muccini-Burke these two essential entities ran like a damn zoo. I've heard nothing in regards to Breanna tackling these issues that are as sticky as they are thorny.
3)The TV3 Debacle. If Mayor Lungo-Koehn didn't want Jenn Dever-Word and Deanna Deveney running her office, why is Lungo-Koehn eating up Stephanie's leftovers, Pat Gordon, over at the perpetually broken TV3? Didn't Michael Marks say back in April of 2018 "Joe Vig was right?" Newsflash to Mr. Marks - I'm even more right now than I've been in the past eighteen years.
Now that Mayor Lungo-Koehn is in the seat of power, the issue that she championed along with us is still a nightmare. That's not leadership, Breanna. How long are you going to punt on this serious issue?
2)The High School
As chair of the school committee we've not seen the new mayor get changes happening in the school system the way they need to happen. Heck, this journalist has covered more angles with public records requests publicly and transparently than the mayor. Why?
What did I paraphrase about great leaders? Being decisive, quick, showing strength and vision.
1)The Brady List - The L'Italien Report
You may want this to go away, Your Honor, but that's like ignoring poverty, discrimination, illiteracy to go away while the person with the power - you - do nothing about it.
The popularity of these issues is very real. My writings have generated phone calls, e mails, incredible shares on Facebook the likes of which I've never seen, and solid daily readers on my Medford Information blog. It's simply stunning the public interest, and a new mayor cannot play ostrich - or Pontius Pilate and think everything is lovely and wonderful when it is not.
Muccini-Burke wanted to turn a blind eye and look where it got her. Some very smart people are starting to bet that you will be a one term mayor. Not addressing these five issues with a leadership quality we've yet to see could ensure that outcome happens in 2022.
Police Chief Buckley is an embarrassment. You may be thinking it, I just come right out and say it.
________________________________________ For the first time in 32 years we have a new mayor, and the hungry public wants something tangible in the first two months, like thirsty nomads in a desert. Leadership is not easy, nor is doing the right thing for every constituent a simple matter.
Leadership is easy for Vladmir Putin. A bully doesn't have to worry about hurting people.
A mayor running on integrity and unity does have that worry. The first two months have come and gone, and people are puzzled and not sure what to think.
That, Madame Mayor, is not an indication of leadership.
The mayor MUST address pay-to-park, the DPW and Medford Housing, the public access situation, the high school and the Brady List and L'Italien Report. Running from these issues is what Muccini-Burke did. We are expecting so much more from our new mayor and we are still nomads thirsting in the desert two months in. It is very troubling.
Lowell police are prohibiting some officers from testifying after questions raised about drug case, DA says
On Friday, the Middlesex district attorney’s office said it has sought to delay court proceedings for cases in which the officers cannot testify, but some of those requests have been denied and the cases were dismissed.
It was unclear Friday night how many criminal cases have been jeopardized by the department’s decision to prohibit the officers from testifying.
