Gun magazine found at Medford’s McGlynn School went unreported to police

A member of the district’s cleaning service found the gun magazine containing an unspecified amount of ammunition under a seat at the back of the auditorium, according to Superintendent of Schools Roy Belson. It was then brought to McGlynn Middle School Principal Jake Edwards, who says he did not see it, Belson said.After some community members heard about the discovery last week, City Councilor Breanna Lungo-Koehn informed the Medford Police Department about the discovery on Friday morning, Lungo-Koehn told the Transcript.
Today, officers from Medford, Arlington, Everett and Somerville swept the building, which has been closed for February vacation, Belson said. No signs of weapons or other threatening materials have been found.
A custodian informed Belson of the gun magazine discovery in early January, Belson said.
