Trooper charged with domestic assault suspended without pay indefinitely
Sundberg has been on force for 14 years
The trooper was identified by a court source as Robert Sundberg, 45.He was arraigned Monday in Ayer District Court on charges of domestic assault.
State police said the trooper was taken into custody Saturday night at his Boxborough home.
According to investigators, Sundberg suddenly and violently assaulted his girlfriend early Saturday morning in the apartment they shared.
"It started and progressed with verbal abuse, the pulling of the hair, things like that," said the alleged victim, who is also a state trooper.
"Then after, it just slowly got worse and worse."
According to police, he restrained her movement, put his hands on her throat choked her and put her in a chokehold before she was able to break free.
Investigators said the victim waited until Sundberg fell asleep to leave the apartment. She notified authorities later in the day.
Sundberg's attorney said the charges of abuse were made up by the victim because he wanted to end the relationship.
Sundberg's bail was set at $500,000 cash and will stay in jail until a dangerousness hearing on Wednesday. The judge granted the alleged victim a one year restraining order.
We don't know if the Trooper, Sundberg did it, or if the girlfriend is being a bully.
But we KNOW that Sgt. Jimmy Lee in Medford did the dirty deed.
