Stephanie Burke's First 100 Days in Office
Part 1 of II
See Part II here:
http://medfordinformationcentral.blogspot.com/2016/04/day-101-evaulation-of-stephanie-muccini.html
Mrs. Burke has to answer two questions that her bosses, the citizens of Medford, will ask her now that we are in the 100th day of her time as Mayor of Medford:
---is she rendering good service to the public that she took an oath to work for in a way that is commensurate with her qualifications, leadership and interpersonal skills (and her pay!)
---has Mrs. Burke been honest with the citizens of Medford, or has she served herself, her family, and her own desire for personal gain above the needs of the community.
The answer to those questions is in how Mrs. Burke has staffed our mayoral office, how she has dealt with the deadly "pay to park," public access TV monies, the police station, the DPW yard, her input on the Medford Housing Authority (allegedly a "separate body politic" according to City Solicitor Mark E. Rumley with appointments to the board of director by the mayor, I believe) and the mess at Medford High School from teachers having inappropriate relationships with students to the failure of long-time superintendent Roy E. Belson to honestly deal with the parents of students by alerting them to bomb threats and a teacher allegedly having sexual relations with a minor or minors - the Jenna Tarabelsi case, to be quite specific.
Before rendering an objective opinion based on the facts, we need to look into Muccini-Burke's history as a popular city councilor opposed to many facets of Mike McGlynn's Administration to her head-scratching performance as Director of Budget and Personnel for Michael J. McGlynn.
The First 100 Days in Office of Stephanie Muccini-Burke need to be inspected by the citizens who allegedly hired her. The citizens need to make a determination on her performance, a "performance evaluation of the first 100 days, if you will, and then find a suitable remedy if Muccini-Burke is found to be lacking, which could include but not be limited to a recall vote, a complaint to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, or outright rallies and marches to remove Muccini-Burke from power.

PREVIOUS HISTORY
As a city councilor, Mrs. Burke was on the right side of issues. Then she decided to run for Mayor. Then Richard Lee died.
So what happened? In early 2011 Mrs. Burke flip-flopped to the dark side so quickly that both Mitt Romney and John Kerry blushed with envy. Rather than run against the McGlynn dynasty stretching back sixty years to the time of Mayor Jack, Mike McGlynn's father, Muccini-Burke embraced an Administration that she was positioned to battle at election time, November 2011.
_________________________________
That was Muccini-Burke's first mistake. Stephanie Burke abandoned her principles to be part of the power structure that she had wanted to take on - the secretive dynasty of the past sixty years that Mrs. Burke was going to run against at election time 2011 she then embraced, capitalizing on the unfortunate death of Richard Lee, December 28, 2010.
That she would be the "minister of justice" in the case against Sgt. Jimmy Lee, brother of the late director of personnel and budgets (as well as being the former city manager,) was appalling.
Sgt. Lee was rumored to have been cheating on his wife with at least one woman, maybe more. Rather than take the high road and leave the scene of an incident on or about September 27, 2010, the police officer struck a woman that he was allegedly involved with causing 8 stitches to her lip. So his brother's replacement, Stephanie Burke, gives Sgt. Jimmy Lee special treatment for punching a woman in the face so hard that she required 8 stitches at the hospital; special treatment when ordinary citizens would have faced a criminal trial and possible jail time.
Sgt. Jimmy Lee's handiwork. O.J. Simpson would be proud.

Just as former Attorney General Martha Coakley only gave Robert Covelle of Medford Housing Authority a slap on the risk for his egregious misconduct, Richard Lee's replacement, Muccini-Burke, went light on his brother on or about March 17, 2010.
So you have an officer of the law accused of drinking wine, philandering and punching a woman, Sgt. Lee required to be held to the highest of standards, exhibiting the lowest of standards AND having an objective judge place a restraining order on an active officer of the law - anything missing here? You have this ugly display of conduct - domestic violence, violence against women (see photo of victim)
and Sgt. Lee gets mere "probation" from city hall along with being restrained by Somerville District Court from going near a citizen.
A person who took an oath to protect the citizenry, just as he took an oath to "cherish, honor and obey" his wife, allegedly violated both. And Stephanie Muccini-Burke gives him internal "probation." ON what planet?
__________________________________
The seriously flawed actions of Director of Personnel Muccini-Burke showed cronyism, a lack of concern for public safety, and an indicator that Stephanie Muccini-Burke was not quite ready for prime time. That the woman who was poised to take on the McGlynn Machine had now become an essential component of it; a trustworthy lieutenant to the devil himself, Satan incarnate, Michael J. McGlynn, was an indication of the bad things to come, a red flag that gives any citizen with a sense of morality reason to pause.
