Anne Marie Cugno wants to take Jeanne Martin up to the school to show her no more graffiti.

Ha Ha...Cugno says "it's not the schools of yesterday...it's the schools of the future...and we're very proud of it."

Love it, Ms. Cugno - Mark Smith under some of your watch?  Is that what you are talking about?

Good for you, Jeannie. You tell them!

Jeanne Martin speaks to the School Committee at 9:15 pm

Melrose, Malden...if kids want to use our facility, they can pay for that.

I have a concern with strange adults coming to the school...especially if they are religious groups - in public buildings.

These concerns are real and they need to be addressed.  I don't like the idea of outside groups, adults, milling around these schools unsupervised.

It's bad enough with the kids doing it (graffiti, terrorism) we don't need adults doing it.

9:17 now that Jackass Roy Belson is yapping "The state senate passed the bill the other day, it isn't law, but it passed through the senate, a comprehensive report on the charter schools throughout the Commonwealth.

There is going to be some debate on Beacon Hill.
I don't believe that the Senate bill in its entirety will be approved by the house and by the governor...

but certainly, the house and the senate will get together and have a discussion about it.

I've drafted a letter...blah blah blah

Roy Belson, time for you to go.

9:19 pm  School Committee meeting still on Verizon

"I'll do whatever you want...the RISE act (that's what it sounds like Roy said), that is consistent with the charter school legislation is something that you may want to take under consideration...

Next meeting May 2nd.

DeBeneditto got a ruling from the State Ethics commission and has the ok to go ahead with this.

The changes that are taking place, it will have to go to the House of Representatives...there are great parts of the bill but there are some parts that need some tweaking...if we send this it might not be good...we could write a letter based on what we think the bill is like and that's more relevant.

CUGNO puts her two cents in "On how it reflects us as a district...how the Charter schools...it's imperative, I mean the whole Commonwealth is onboard, I agree with the superintendent that we do our edits...but if we're going to write a letter until everyone agrees, we'll be sitting on this letter for the next ten years."

BELSON: 9:22 pm  I do believe there are pieces in the senate legislation that we should (agree with)...a reimbursement form that's more realistic.

I'm not going to address good, bad or indifferent on Charter Schools...I do want to say there is a bill out there that is asking for full funding,...better demographics taken across the board

I think those are things that we should want to be on record that we're knowledgeable with things being spoken about on the hill than being four weeks behind.

VAN DER FRUIT:  9:25  Our May 2nd meeting is three weeks off  Part of the intent...

we're against any legislation that raises the current cap on Charter schools..

I'm just concerned that you're going to bring something back in 3 weeks when the debate is done.

BELSON  9:26  We are scheduling a committee of the whole April 25

Van Der Fruit Vacation week in between

BELSON: Make it a stand alone item along with the committee of the whole reports

...talking about things that may not be in play going forward

Van Der Fruit: We can talk to our legislators separately...I think bringing it to the Committee of the Whole is good

APRIL 26 is the day you want to come and advocate

MS DEBENEDITTO: 9:27 pm  Superintendent, I agree with you, there are so many changes...I have a copy of what was passed in the senate'

I really think that we as a school committee want to represent ourselves...

want to review what's on there now...I do see some ...on reimbursement...it has a few things in there that really, really aren't in the best light for either side, so that's why I plan on sitting with our state senator and talking to her about it as an individual...

(Let's) be really, really ready...instead of a letter that makes us look behind.

9:28 pm Belson quoting American Prospect, a very aggressive writer out of Washington...Robert Kuttner, Robert Reich...

it talks about the money moving away from schools

that's really sort of the heart of a lot of this discussion

I recommend you read it...there's a lot of stuff going on in other communities..it's the kind of discussion that's going to happen over the next couple of months.

Stephanie Burke; Very Good

DeBeneditto: Mr. Skerry and I met with a few of our State Representatives...

is this the article Roy mentioned? or referenced?
