Massachusetts Verizon Workers Prep For Massive East Coast Strike

Lawmakers Urge Verizon to Reach Agreeement

In a March 18 letter to McAdam, 20 U.S. senators called for the Verizon to “act as a responsible corporate citizen and negotiate a fair contact with the employees who make your success possible.”

Thousands of East Coast Verizon workers – including 6,000 in Massachusetts and Rhode Island – are planning to strike Wednesday if labor representatives can’t negotiate a new contract with the communications giant.
The strike is scheduled for 6 a.m. on April 13 and would be “by far the largest work stoppage in the country in recent years,” according to union leaders.

For 10 months, Verizon workers have been in intense negotiations to reach a fair contract and on Monday labor leaders from the IBEW Local 2222 and the CWA announced the strike deadline.

“We will set up picket lines and shut this company down if a fair agreement is not reached by then,” Massachusetts union leaders said in a statement issued Monday.
