DIVISION 4. - CITY SOLICITOR

Sec. 2-651. - Appointment and qualification.


There shall be a city solicitor. He shall be appointed annually by the mayor. He shall be an attorney and counsellor of the courts of the commonwealth.

Sec. 2-652. - Term.

He shall hold office one year from the first Monday in March in the year of his appointment, and until another shall be appointed and qualified.

Sec. 2-653. - Chief legal adviser; assistants; acting solicitor.

He alone shall act as the chief legal adviser and solicitor of the city. The mayor may appoint such assistants as he may deem necessary and fix their compensation, but the whole amount of such compensation shall not exceed the sum appropriated for the law department by the city council. In case of unavoidable absence or illness of the city solicitor, the mayor shall designate one of the assistant solicitors to be acting city solicitor.

Sec. 2-654. - Duties as to legal instruments.

He shall cause to be drafted such bonds, deeds, obligations, contracts, leases, conveyances, agreements and other legal instruments of whatever nature, as may be required by any ordinance or by any order of the mayor, the city council or any committee thereof.
