Re: Massachusetts Public Records Request
P.S. This request IS a public document as well. Note that I editorialize in my requests to get pertinent information on the public record in a manner in which it - most likely - won't be shredded, deleted or otherwise destroyed, whether or not city government wants to abide by these "sunshine laws" and uphold transparency that residents, businesses, civic groups and visitors deserve
Dear Keeper of the Records:

This is a request under the Massachusetts Public Records Law (M. G. L. Chapter 66, Section 10). I am requesting that I be provided a copy of the following records:
1)All e mails or letters inviting individuals to join the transition team of Mayor elect Breanna Lungo-Koehn
2)All documents which show boards and commissions that Mr. John Costas participated on over the past 30 years
3)All documents showing the votes made by John Costas on those boards and commissions
4)The amount of money the city of Medford has paid John Costas in 2017, 2018, 2019

I recognize that you may charge reasonable costs for copies, as well as for personnel time needed to comply with this request however, as a member of the press with a vibrant Medford newsletter that has 39,589 views in the past month, 1,470,159 all-time views (29,841 shy of one and a half million page views,) as of 6:25 am December 3, 2019, I kindly request that you waive all fees as the mayor-elect has offered transparency, integrity, unity and community - and to work with people who are highly skilled in certain areas which, regrettably, some people on the transition seem may be lacking in that regard.

The backgrounds of some of the individuals on the transition team are essential as this is the first act of the new mayor of Medford after 34 years of tyranny.  And that is said solemnly for, as the mayor knows, I'm as serious as a judge when it comes to local government.

There are some great and talented people - some former elected officials - that are not on the transition team(that, refreshingly, were not part of the old McGlynn Machine,)  and that is deeply troubling when Medford needs a clean break from the past.

An alleged independent contractor for the city knee-deep in the McGlynn Machine is a questionable move and sends a clear - chilling - message for people who voted for change.

Thank God for the sunshine laws. We intend to work hard to hold the mayor-elect to her campaign promises.  Some citizens are shocked by certain members of the transition team vis-à-vis the campaign promise of unity.  Some citizens have felt left out in the cold in exchange for past cronyism.
I also don't want to hear that documents are not available because the new mayor has not been sworn in yet.

Breanna Lungo-Koehn is the Vice President of the Medford City Council as well as the mayor-elect, thus, all these documents are necessary to show the public which direction the Council Vice President has for this new administration.

The Public Records Law requires you to provide me with a written response within 10 business days. If you cannot comply with my request, you are statutorily required to provide an explanation in writing.

Sincerely,

Your Name
