Dear Ms. McCabe:
As a Sunday Globe subscriber I was a bit mystified as to why you would promote Candidates Night a full 10 days before the event.
With TV3's webmaster in Somerville District Court on Tuesday, October 8, for the alleged false bomb threat and Medford Community Cablevision, Inc. throwing the towel in on September 30th, it is absurd that Globe North totally dropped the ball on the story...and writes about...something in the future ???????????????????

False Bomb Threat
The recent arrest of TV3’s webmaster on charges of making a false bomb
threat has added fodder to calls from the Medford City Council for a
termination of the public access station’s contract with the city.

Then there's the troublesome admission by a member of the now-defunct board of directors of Medford Community Cablevision, Inc. flagrantly telling the Medford Transcript that he would violate the contract he is required to uphold and do away with access tv. A more specific example of a board member of a non-profit admitting to fraudulent conduct has probably never been published in a newspaper in Medford before. The agreement calls for the facilitation of programming and a board member says...naaaah....we like our perks but the public shouldn't be able to learn computer skills or broadcast programming during an election cycle or anytime and - go to YouTube.
From a false bomb threat arrest to blurting out that the board of directors was not at all interested in the training of local residents to use the cameras and computers (because the staff and the board lacked the qualifications to do so; they just held on to the station to - as Judge Marie O. Jackson-Thompson (retired) reported in August of 2009 - have their own "private MCC access."
This is huge news...and Kathy McCabe writes about...."candidates night."
Community access
DeLuca, who currently sits on the embattled community access station
TV3’s Board of Directors, said if he is elected mayor, he will eliminate
funding for public, education and governmental (PEG) access stations
and instead steer those dollars to the city’s general budget.
“I would want to do away with PEG channels so the money can come to the
city,” said DeLuca. “You could still use that money to fund education
at the high school — teach them how to put video on the Internet. We’d
be freeing up the money to do other things with it.”
