Last night a group of Boston rock and roll legends were in a "music barn" - a practice space with a beautiful campfire outside.

Even the rain couldn't stop the fire outside or the energy the musicians were creating inside the space.

The new 7 piece band features musicians that first played the room 41 years ago. The new pairing of two of the guitarists who have played with me over the decades, virtuoso's who never performed together before, was sheer magic.

"Joe has his Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter" one of the guitarists said. My friend Dick Wagner passed away last year, I first met him at a Lou Reed concert September 1, 1973.
We have put together a tribute concert to that night, and the blending of the sounds in the barn last evening in practice for the event was mind boggling.
photo by a famous Medford photographer, R.C....no, not that R.C., a really talented artist.

It sounds like The Rolling Stones meets the Velvet Underground. And for the first time in my career I will take the stage and sing a set of someone else's music. For the first time in 42 years there will be strictly the work of Lou Reed, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (except for one song by one of the guitarists, but none of my originals for the first time in 42 years.)

And it will be performed respectfully and with the love and devotion we've had for this material spanning those decades.

And a killer version of "Hanging Round," a Lou Reed song from TRANSFORMER that we have never played before:

"You keep Hanging Round Me
I'm not so glad you found me

You're still doing things that I gave up years ago
Jeannie was a spoiled young brat
she thought she knew it all
she smoked mentholated cigarettes
and had sex in the hall
but she was not my kind
or even of my sign

And for Paul A. Camuso...we will dedicate in spirit (but not verbally)
the song VICIOUS
Vicious
you want me to hit you with a stick
but all I've got is a guitar pick
baby you're so vicious
when I see you come, I just want to run
far away
you're not the kind of person round I want to stay..
Vicious
why don't you swallow razor blades
you must think that I'm some kinda gay blade
but baby you're so vicious
you certainly aren't very much fun
An evening of fun, a Camuso free zone, much like the City Council of Medford will be in just a few months...
