Ex-housing authority director pleads not guilty to credit card case

The former executive director of the Burlington Housing Authority is free on personal recognizance after answering today to accusations she maxed out her work-issued credit card to pay for personal expenses including her daughter’s wedding and her son’s education.

Maureen Lynch, 53, whispered not guilty to the charge of “taking of an unwarranted privilege” — in other words, stepping outside her authority by charging personal purchases to the government — at a clerk-magistrate’s hearing in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn.

Defense attorney David R. Yannetti would not say how much if any of the $20,000 Lynch has repaid to the BHA or if she’s cooperating with investigators.

“My client has not been charged with stealing anything,” Yannetti said outside the courthouse. “A grand jury investigated this matter, had options of larceny, embezzlement, conversion — any type of theft. And they chose not to indict on any theft charges.”
