School Committee member Mea Quinn Mustone urged
Belson to draft a written protocol for communicating with families
following emergencies.
“It needs to be more consistent,” she said. “It seems a principal at one school seems to give more information than another.”
Belson
agreed to write a communication protocol for emergencies stating the
district will notify families within one hour after “stabilizing” a
threat.
But School Committee members were also
critical of the administration’s decision not to inform all students
about the bomb threat the day it occurred. They said many students did
not learn about the threat until their families received the automated
phone message later that evening.
“I think it
was really confusing for the students,” said School Committee member
Kathleen Kreatz. “My son is still asking me questions that I don’t have
answers to.”
MHS parent Suzanne Henson said she also wished the school had addressed the incident with students the day of the threat.
“They’re
young adults,” she said. “My rule at home is I’d rather prepare you and
help you deal with what could potentially happen.”

From Roy Belson: While Councilors Falco and Scarpelli argued that the discussion of this issue belonged to the School Committee, and would be discussed at our Wednesday meeting, Councilors Lungo-Koehn and Marks assisted by former councilor Penta , Joseph Viglione and a few others voiced inflammatory rhetoric designed to provoke fear among parents and malfeasance toward school officials." Right, Roy, attacking the good people doing the right thing for the city of Medford. Not very smart, perhaps we should start docking old Roy's pay?

From Dawn A:
Just some food for thought. I just happened to catch the meeting on the bomb threat & security this evening....now I was there for it personally as well, but this time I was really able to notice that the new P R person looked tired and board and didn't speak, no questions and or comments as well as no notes taken. Like is this for real? for $90,000 and this was the first major thing that has happened since she got the job and we got nothing from her....
Also, Mrs Burke for the most part stared into space, looked tired and board herself, called the names of who was up next to speak and didn't talk herself to the folks that showed up. But skedaddle right out of there all while Belson was having his tizzy fit on a councilman. What a lack of professionalism on so many levels.
Last, I know of a few people that have written on Burkes main FB page and said what they were writing had nothing to with their personal feelings about Burke, but just had some concerns that they wanted to write up there...to then realize later that the post had been taken down & this his happened to a few people now. So if you do write, take a screen shot immediately after it posts so you have proof, for this is unacceptable! #Medford
