Due
to various reasons, that I will discuss, I have decided not to run for
State Senate in the 2nd Middlesex District after all for this cycle in
2016. First of all, I want to thank you all for the outpouring of
support I received when I announced I would be a candidate and when I
was a candidate for this office in 2014.
Your kindness is profound because I know it's not so much for "me" as it is for the things you know I stand for that you also stand for. Smaller and limited government, less taxes, less regulations, the Constitution, life, family values, and American excellence....and then some. wink emoticon God bless you all.
I have chosen not to run for two reasons:
1) My new duties as Chair of Region 3 and what that of the executive committee may entail as well as my regular duties on the MASS GOP as State Committeeman for this district.
2) This being a Presidential election cycle also draws out many more voters which, for a Republican in Massachusetts, is not always a "good thing" as this state is predominantly supporting the likes of Bernie Sanders and/or Hillary Clinton.
This is not to say some Republicans are not inclined to win their races but as district demographics differ some Republicans, like myself, have a much steeper hill to climb. Somerville, in my district, has a ratio of 20 to 1 against Republicans.
I cannot, in good faith, solicit funds for a race I am not completely sure I can win in this pivotal Presidential cycle. Those who are supporting me, or any Republican really, deserve a candidate who is 100% sure and when I crunch the numbers in 2016, the 2nd Middlesex leaves doubt in my mind but that's not to say 2018 is too far away for another bid to take this seat. And, there are municipal elections I will be a major part of in 2017 right here in my hometown of Medford.
During the interim, I will be focusing my time on races we can assuredly win. Such as Caroline Colarusso running for State Representative. This is a seat we can win even in this Presidential cycle due to the numbers being so positive for Caroline who is a great candidate that I hope more folks will come out to join me in volunteering and fund raising efforts, please and thank you.
As the cliché goes, Rome wasn't built in a day and I believe we Republicans can take back Beacon Hill one seat at a time starting with smartly choosing the battles we can win and combining our efforts in those battles.
Again, I thank you all for your support and know this: I am here, I am continuing the fight, and I will never give up. Never.
God bless you all. God bless America.
