LOSES SUIT IN FEDERAL COURT

In February 2014, Riccio filed a suit against Greater Lawrence Tech and Superintendent John Lavoie, citing wrongful terminations and alleging the school, district, and superintendent committed a variety of state and federal violations when she was terminated.

Last week, the U.S. District Court ruled in favor of Greater Lawrence Tech in a summary judgment, dismissing all claims made by Riccio.


Riccio, 43, of Salisbury, lost her job as director of careers and technical education at Greater Lawrence Technical School after an internal investigation found that a press release issued by the school falsely identified her as the recipient of a national teacher's award. Riccio was never named “Educator of the Year” by the nonprofit Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, a Chelsea High School teacher actually received the award.
