Teacher charged with sex act with student

The teacher, Taylor Brooks Boyles, 27, of 5216 County Road 87, Moulton, was charged with the offense of a school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student under the age of 19. The offense is a Class B felony, which is punishable by two to 20 years in prison and up to $30,000 in fines.
Lawrence County Superintendent Jon Bret Smith said he initially received information regarding the alleged sexual activity on Thursday, May 18, and quickly acted.

Mitchell Chester, Longtime Mass Education Commissioner, Dies - he made comments about a Medford Teacher




The late Mitchell Chester's comment in Mark Smith article:
"It's very troubling," said Mitchell Chester, commissioner of the Massachusetts department of elementary and secondary education. "We have zero tolerance for that kind of behavior and we're very aggressive in going after those individuals," said Chester.

Former Medford High School teacher Mark Smith lost his teaching license last year after allegations surfaced he sexually abused a former female student.

Deputy Commissioner Jeff Wulfson was named acting commissioner Tuesday. Wulfson, with help from others, had been fulfilling some of Chester's duties while his schedule has been cut back due to illness.
Chester has been commissioner since May 2008. He began as a school teacher in Connecticut before working a number of roles in Connecticut, Philadelphia, and Ohio school systems. He received his doctorate in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy from Harvard University.

Chester was the Massachusetts Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education since 2008.
