Contract announcement from October 5, 2016
Mayor Stephanie M. Burke is pleased to announce that the City of Medford has awarded the contract to complete the construction of the new Public, Education and Government Television Studio, (formerly Community Access Television) located at the Medford Vocational Technical High School (MVTHS). The new studio will incorporate all areas of access television, utilizing it by day, to teach students in the MVTHS’s new Media Technology Program and giving access to the community through public and government programming after school hours.
“We are excited to proceed with the construction of this facility, which will be a learning lab for people of all ages and abilities,” said Mayor Stephanie M. Burke. “We are eager to see local programming back on our airwave.”
Integrated Construction Corp (IFC) located in Medford, Massachusetts, was awarded the contract in the amount of $756,700.00 and this includes (2) Sub bids: Electrical and HVAC. Construction will commence upon final contract signing and appropriate permitting. Improvements that will be made are: full build out of state of the art facility, making the studio handicapped accessible, as well as, providing a separate entrance way for studio access.
“The new multi-media studio will enhance the educational opportunities of our students and at the same time provide a facility that will enable an outstanding community access program for vibrant citizen participation,” said Superintendent Roy Belson.
“When we began this journey nearly two years ago, I didn’t realize the careful planning it would take to ensure the studio provided an opportunity for students but also a location where the community can access programming specific to Medford and the surrounding community. We are fortunate to be able to train our future news reporters in a state of the art facility. It is exciting to be part of this transformation,” said Dr. Heidi Riccio, Principal of the Medford Vocational Technical High School.
While the studio is under construction, the MVTHS students in Media Technology, under the direction of Kristina Fraser, will work with the City to incorporate community based programming which could include a mobile station. Further details will be forthcoming.
