Medford man announces he will challenge Michael McGlynn in November.

Known as "John from Medford" as a frequent caller on 850 AM WEEI and 98.5 FM WBZ radio stations, Byers brought Damon Amendolara from 98.5 to TV 3 Medford and planned on interviewing Larry Lucchino until the station broadcast "Dirty Talk Live" and the city became a joke in the local broadcast television news media.

"Mayor McGlynn asked me why I didn't want to go back to TV 3 and failed to help me resolve the situation." Byers said. "I moved to a different station and interviewed Mr. Lucchino for my new show outside of the Medford City Limits...but why should residents have to go elsewhere when the Mayor has City Hall enjoying 3% of the franchise fee attached to your cable bill...and no accountability for the 2% he does give to public, educational and governmental access TV."
John Byers will accept no more than $30,000.00 salary as Mayor, and he challenges McGlynn to do the same.

"McGlynn brought home $141,296 last year," Byers said. "Over 24 years he has made well over a million dollars as Mayor, closer to two.  If we have to cut jobs at City Hall let's remove the person who is the 7th highest paid person on the government payroll in Medford."

Byers has a number of other issues he will unveil along the campaign trail.  If you believe in change, if you aren't afraid of a person who actually cares about you running the city despite having a handicap (and Byers cites John C. Curran, former Woburn Mayor, flourishing in Billerica as Town Manager as one example of the benefits of a person with a disability holding office), then vote John Byers on November 8th.

If President Obama is Change You Can Believe in, John Byers is Change that Medford Desperately needs.

The following was submitted by John Byers. The statements made are opinion, and do not reflect the views Medford Patch:
Advocate for the disadvantaged and well-known sports enthusiast, John Byers II, has involved himself in Medford politics his entire life.

"Michael J. McGlynn is a great guy, but as Mayor he's been absolutely tone-deaf to the needs of the disabled community" Byers said.

Byers can personally attest to that as he chose not to renew his membership to Medford Community Cablevision, Inc. after he read that McGlynn's own City Solicitor, Mark E. Rumley, dubbed TV 3 "Equal opportunity slappers" yet McGlynn's Administration failed to address the voluminous complaints that have filtered in to City Hall.

"McGlynn is in his 24th year with no term limits, no well-funded opposition and City Councilors mocking him regularly and calling him 'King.' The sense of fatigue around the entire city, McGlynn Fatigue...is extreme; the irritation to Medford voters so palpable you can almost touch it," Byers said.
